United Nations Global Compact

NH Hotel Group promotes strategic alliances and collaboration in sustainability. The Company is aware of the importance of collaboration between institutions in order to comply with the sustainable development agenda. Accordingly, the Company establishes alliances based on common principles, values and goals with different organizations, whether in the public or private sector, at world, regional, national and local level.

NH Hotel Group adhered to the United Nations Global Compact in 2006, following its 10 principles as an internal reference framework for designing the Corporate Responsibility strategy and management. This year the Company also adhered to “Responsible Tourism: A Commitment Shared by All”, an initiative led by the Global Compact and the World Tourism Organization that includes the signing of the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism. The purpose of this project is to make progress in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility within Spain’s tourism sector and help businesses within the industry meet their ethical and sustainable development commitments. 

Socially responsible investment (SRI)

FTSE4GOOD

Since 2013, NH Hotel Group has been included in the FTSE4GOOD index and renews its presence year after year, thanks to the responsible management of the business and the improvements made. The index was created by the London Stock Exchange to help investors integrate environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) factors in decision making.

BLOOMBERG - GENDER EQUALITY INDEX

NH Hotel Group has been included for the second time in the Bloomberg gender-equality index 2021 and is the only Spanish hotel company among the 380 companies included in the index.

The Company has obtained its best results in salary equality and parity, thanks to its compensation policies based on gender equality and on the fight against the pay gap. This has confirmed aspects that were already known, such as the positive presence of women at all levels of responsibility in the Company.

 

Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP)

Carbon Disclosure Project recognizes the efforts made by leading global companies in the battle against climate change. In the last report dated December 2020, NH Hotel Group obtained a rating of B in the annual ranking. With this rating, NH Hotel Group once again sees recognition of its pioneering vision to place sustainability as a strategic value that has acted as lever for value across the Group for more than a decade. Since 2010 NH Hotel Group has participated in the CDP global climate change sustainability index.

SAM Corporate Sustainability Assessment - S&P Global

NH Hotel Group has been ranked third among the most sustainable hotel chains in the world, thus consolidating its position as one of the benchmark companies in sustainability in the industry worldwide, after being assessed for a second year by SAM, the sustainable investment agency that assesses the companies that make up the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.

The commitments in this field and the improvement that NH Hotel Group has shown during this year have earned it a Bronze Class award in in S&P Global's Sustainability Yearbook 2021. In addition, NH Hotel Group has been recognised as an “Industry Mover” due to the great progress achieved in one year.

Alliance for Excellency in Tourism (EXCELTUR for its acronym in Spanish), is a non-profit group made up by the Chairmen of the 33 leading Spanish tourist groups from the following sectors: airlines, cruises, hotels, travel agencies, tour operators, credit cards, rent-a-car, tourist hospitals, and GDSs. EXCELTUR was founded at the end of 2001 with the following main goals: To raise awareness and promote better knowledge and understanding of the socio-economic importance of tourism, the job creation capacity, and its multiplier effects on the Spanish economy. To promote and encourage the highest degree of competitiveness for the Spanish tourism industry to be able to consolidate its leadership and continuous growth in the most sustainable manner.

Sustainable Hospitality Alliance
Sustainable Hospitality Alliance represents how the hospitality industry is taking collective responsibility to ensure that destinations and communities are being supported and protected now and for future generations. Its members make up 25% of the global hotel industry by rooms and include 13 world-leading hotel companies with a combined reach of over 30,000 properties and 4.5 million rooms. It was previously known as International Tourism Partnership, which operated the Youth Career Initiative and Green Hotelier. Following a period of growth, it became an independent charity, uniting its programmes under Sustainable Hospitality Alliance in 2020.

NH Hotel Group’s 2008-2012 Environmental Action Plan wins European Business Award for the Environment. in the ‘Business & Biodiversity’ category. These prizes are awarded by the European Union’s Directorate-General for the Environment and given by Their Royal Highnesses Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia.
